One Stitch at a Time: Southern Vernacular Quilts

Presented By: LSU Museum of Art at the Shaw Center for the Arts

Discover the rich history and vibrant artistry of Southern vernacular quilts in the exhibition “One Stitch at a Time.” Featuring quilts from the collection of Doug McCraw and the Hilliard Art Museum, this exhibition showcases the renowned quilts of Gee’s Bend, Alabama. These quilts, crafted by the descendants of enslaved people, highlight bold, geometric patterns and vibrant colors that have gained global recognition. The exhibition also includes narrative quilts by artists O’tesia Harper, Sarah Mary Taylor, Yvonne Wells and Chris Clark, each piece telling unique stories and scenes.
